For several years, I've had a phrase rolling around in my mind, "Black Mesa" but no clear vision of how I wanted to paint the painting. I knew wanted to push the abstraction further, make them more conceptual than literal, but the way forward was still obscured.

Then one night about a week ago, I jumped out of bed and ran to the easel and began to paint. The first flurry of creative activity produced four 8" x 10" paintings. I'm not sure how far this series will go, but there are quite a few others planned (medium to larger sizes).
