Small-Art Compendium

If you are in the area, please head on down to Abend Gallery for their annual holiday miniature show beginning December 2, 2011. It's one of my favorite shows of the year and a great opportunity to acquire wonderful small artworks by an incredibly diverse group of artists. My work has also been included in the December issue of American Art Collector as one of the featured artists for the show (page 163). As soon as I get a photo or a PDF, I'll post it.

: : Viewing them framed is such a different experience, me thinks. Every once in awhile I like to experiment with virtual frames to see the pieces in a new way. Interesting exercise. At this point, I'm liking the idea of a white, simple frame with a contemporary feel. The frame samples shown are not quite exact but give me a general idea. Ideas, like maps, are forever changed by the unfolding. :: WHAT :: In the larger sense, I don't know yet. In the immediate, I'll be content for these new wee pieces to be simple, direct, minimal expressions of a journey to an unknown destination.

The long-awaited Clyfford Still Museum opens in Denver today. I'm so excited to have one of my own artistic inspirations so close at hand. I will be haunting the halls of that museum, alrighty! Mr. Still infamously kept most of his considerable output of work from public eyes until now, so the museum will have over 2400 works of his to exhibit. This is a big day for Denver and an incredible opportunity for us art lovers everywhere to see amazing art from a master. A landmark of rocks used in the Canadian north for navigation or communication. In essence it says, Someone was here and went thattaway. They also indicated food caches, good hunting/fishing spots, or shelter for future travelers.
